Q:
How did you get started?
A: I was in a high school fashion show and my Polaroid was sent
to an agent in New York. Before I knew it, I was doing three issues
of Italian Vogue with Ellen Von Unwerth. I thought it would be
fun but it was hard work.
Q:
How has your career blossomed since then?
A: I've been very lucky. I was chosen for the Chanel #5 campaign
and the Perry Ellis campaign with photographer Bruce Weber.
I feel lucky to come into this routine.
Q:
Do you miss living in Canada?
A: I miss the open space but New York has such a fun, fast,
invigorating pace. You get so much done in a day here.
Q:
What do you like best about modeling?
A: You get to meet a lot of different people, people with different
backgrounds and you learn to deal with different characters.
I also like traveling to see places.
Q:
What do you like least about modeling?
A: I spend a lot of time in the air. And I find that more often
than not, I have to hurry up and wait. Everyone wants you to
be there on time, but once you get there you have to sit and
wait for a certain shot.
Q:
How do you dress when you're not modeling?
A: I like simple, feminine, easy clothes. I usually wear flip
flops and dresses, sweaters, jeans and tanks. I love basic sweaters
like turtlenecks or v-necks and low cut pants that sit on your
hips.
Q:
What are your favorite fashions for fall?
A: I love twills, tweed, cashmere and other lightweight fabrics
for winter. As far as colors go, I especially like blues, browns,
black and cream.
Q:
Do you try to follow the trends?
A: It's hard to go with a trend. As soon as it's out, everyone
picks it up. It's important to stay true to yourself. Have fun
with fashion instead of letting it dictate.
Q:
What do you do to keep your model figure?
A: I exercise a lot, I get an adrenaline rush after exercising
every day. I run, bike, do yoga or hike. I like to take bike
rides with my boyfriend. At the gym, I do cardio, situps and
stretch.
Q:
Do you have to watch what you eat to stay in shape?
A: I try to eat plenty of vegetables, fruit, lean proteins and
whole grains. And when I really crave something sweet, I treat
myself to cookies and ice cream. I also love steak.
Q:
Do you wear makeup when you're not working?
A: Very little. I wear Carmex lip balm, Kiehls 8-Hour Cream
and sometimes mascara if I'm going out to dinner. I also love
clean smelling body sprays. When I do wear more makeup, I use
strong black eyeliner inside my lids but I don't like to wear
too much on my lips. It always smudges when I talk, eat or kiss.
Q:
What's your cleansing routine like?
A: I use Cetaphil cleanser to take my makeup off, then grapefruit
toner form the Body Shop. I apply Nivea moisturizer afterward.
Q:
What kind of makeup are you looking forward to wearing for
fall?
A: I like lots of brown/purple or dark mauve shadow on the eyes.
They both make blue or green eyes stand out.
Q:
Do you enjoy doing fashion shows?
A: I always have trouble with the shoes since I'm a size 6-1/2
or 7 and the shoes are always too big. Doing a lot of shows
is stressful. I do it strictly for exposure and to build relationships
with designers that are really good.
Q:
What would you be doing if you weren't modeling?
A: I love acting and really want to get into it. Or else I would
want to own a classic French restaurant or a crazy but fun bar/restaurant.
I love to cook.
Q:
What advice do you have for girls who want to model?
A: Do the best job you can for that day. If you're doing something
you think is small, you may not realize it could end up being
something really big.
