I can't upload pics!

Postby Xray on Fri Jan 25, 2008 4:22 am

For some reason, I can't upload pictures. When I go to sites like imagevenue, for example, it won't let me upload pictures. I select the pic from my PC and then I click on upload, but then nothing happens. It says uploading, but I wait minutes on end for nothing to happen. I've tried other hosting sites, plus other sites similar to ACC which have their own uploading tools, but nothing happens there either. And I've tried several virus scanners, but they detect nothing wrong with my PC. I can do ANYTHING ELSE but upload pics. And it just stopped working recently. Anyone have any advice?

My suggestions:

1. Empty your windows temp folder, found at these locations:

"C:\Windows\Temp" and "C:\Documents and Settings\*your userame*\Local Settings\Temp"

If this wont help:

2 . Clear your browser cache and cookies.

If this wont help:

3. Reinstall your browser

If still no luck, I dont know.. reinstall Windows? (I know that sux)

Good luck!

P.S.: Just a tipp: Empty your temp folder at least twice a week, this will improve your OS stability. Note, that some files in Temp folder might be impossible to delete, dont worry, just skip them..

It's amazing how something so simple as cleaning out the history and cookies from the internet does wonders for the computer. Thank you so much. I will be doing that more often now.

It sounds like a technical problem, but heres something ive come across recently,.....
I scanned some pics to post on a forum, using Photoshop, and ( after lots of swearing as to why they wouldnt upload) I found that photoshop had saved the files in CMYK mode as opposed to RGB, and the internet wont recognise CMYK mode, you just get that damn red X.
I converted them to RGB, and voila!
You might want to check that.

Now it's not working again. It was a fluke that it was working again. Imagevenue has been sitting therefor about 5 minutes trying o load one pic of 400k. Same thing with Imageshack and some other sites too. I deleted the temp and web history/cache/cookies, but no luck. The ability to uplad goes in and out. I can do anything else online, which is weird, just not uploading.

Do you have any kind of firewall in your system? Are you using any software that hides your identity when you're surfing? When you upload pictures to an image host, the host server communicates with your computer. If your IP address is hidden in any way, you won't be able to upload anything.

If you have a firewall - whether hardware or software (like Zone Alarm) or an Internet security suite - such as Norton or McAfee - there may be security settings that prevent this. You should also check your browser's security settings. I don't know anything about Opera, but IE and Firefox both allow you to adjust the strictness of your security settings. If you have these security settings at too high a level, this could cause problems, as well.

Well if even reinstalling browser wont help, theres most likely problem with your internet connection. One last suggestion that just might work: Try windows restore service and restore to the point just before this problem accured. This useful function saved my system many time for now..

The thing is, it's ONLY uploading that goes. Downloading and anything else online works just fine. And when uploading is gone, it's gone on IE, Firefox AND Opera, all simultaneously, and it comes back simultaneously. I'm wondering why my internet chooses to disconnect ONLY uploading at times.

I tried restoring my PC, but it comes back after restarting saying it can't restore to an earlier point, and no changes have taken place. But that was before deleting the virus. I should try it again next time the uploading goes.

Theres a trick to make restore work in this case: Start Windows in safemode
by pressing and holding F8 while restarting your PC, then restore from safe mode. Should work!

It's my Windows explorer (XP). It sometimes doesn't like the internet, whatever internet I may be using. They sometimes aren't compatible for uploading. When that's the case, I can go to the task manager and manually end explorer and then I can upload just fine, but then I have to push the button and restart the computer. And that's only sometimes.

And now, my task manager isn't working right. The whole top menu that is usually there with several options to switch to (and end progranms and restart the computer) is gone.
