I share your cynicism. And if you look back in time, that's
exactly how this stupid "pop" music/crap got started: they couldn't play in a real venue, since no one in their right mind would go to their shows, so they crammed them down the publics' throats by sending them to malls. The kiddies were delighted, the parents groaned but at least it wasn't Rap, and suddenly these pre-packaged posers are regarded as "artists."
I told a young friend of mine how much I despise today's music, especially Britney Spears, Justine Timberlake, et. al., and she looked at me like I just levitated. I tried to explain to her that it's not about
talent these days, it's about
looks. Again, the blank stare. I threw my hands up and said,
"If I gave Britney Spears a Telecaster right now ... she'd ask me what it was!"
