Guide Online: Welcome!
Tonight's chat is with Victoria's Secret model Heidi Klum. Thanks
for joining us tonight Heidi.
Heidi
Klum: Hello, everybody out there all over the world!
Hutchinson_98:
Have you accomplished any of your goals in life yet?
Klum:
Yes. Most important thing, I've found my husband. My best
friend in the whole world. Being a Victoria's Secret model,
which was always my dream. Getting on the cover of Sports
Illustrated, magazines like Cosmopolitan, Glamour, GQ, German
Vogue and so on.... A little acting debut in Spin City, with
Michael J. Fox, which opened up a whole new door for me.
TV
Guide Online: What haven't you accomplished yet?
Klum:
That's a good one! There's many more things I want to
do. I am interested in movies. But I also want to have a family
with children one day, which is very important to me.
Maverick3_10:
As a result of your appearances on Spin City, do plan
to expand your acting career, or are you primarily focused
on modeling?
Klum:
My main focus is modeling. But I'm going to do three more
episodes for Spin City starting in March. And I had offers
for movies, but it still hasn't been the right one yet. But
I'd love to do one.
WARRIOR_G:
Do you think you will ever want kids, or do you have any currently?
Klum:
I definitely want to have children. I grew up in a big family
with a lot of kids around, and I definitely want to have children
as well.
ashlyn_s: How do you stay in shape?
Klum:
LOL! Always that question! The main thing is healthy eating,
exercise, which I do for special events, like if it's Sports
Illustrated, or the swim suit catalogue for Victoria's Secret,
or my own calendar that I did for the year 2000. I go and
train with a personal trainer. But I think the main thing
is all in what you eat.
NYgal00:
Heidi, how little do you eat a day?
Klum:
I actually eat a lot. I just eat the right things. For example,
for breakfast a little fruit. I love oatmeal with, like, fruit
in it, berries or bananas, you have to get creative with it!
You can actually make it taste good! For lunch, big salad
with chicken or pasta. For dinner, I do a lot of stir-fried
in the wok, with cabbage, all different vegetables, rice.
If you eat a big lunch and breakfast and a medium dinner,
you shouldn't have to eat all the munchy stuff in between
and you should be fine. People always starve themselves, and
then they get hungry, and then they eat the wrong things,
like chips or cookies or whatever they can grab. You can grab,
just eat healthy. Alcohol is not good either.
jmungerscat:
How much do you weigh? You look pretty thin. You need some
doughnuts and, like, meatloaf and stuff.
Klum:
LOL! I think 127 or something, is that right? And do that
stuff too - sometimes. You have to treat yourself every once
in a while, get to the fun stuff!
airborne11c:
How tall are you?
Klum:
I'm 5' 9 1/2".
CoolGuy650:
Do guys try to impress you a lot?
Klum:
Not really. I find actually that most guys are intimidated.
And I don't understand why, because I don't think I'm a very
cold person.
jmiranda54:
A lot of girls are uncomfortable with themselves. How
do you manage to keep so confident?
Klum:
LOL! Well, people always think that models are very comfortable
with themselves, very open and have no problems with anything.
But there are times when I'm intimidated by walking into a
room with a lot of people I don't know. Or I go somewhere
where I'm not wearing the right outfit. Or I have a big pimple
I can't hide! So everyone has that problem, models have that
problem, too.
ohbehave42:
Hi. Adam here... are models generally supportive of each other
and friendly or is there a lot of competition and hostility?
Klum:
I have to say that there are a lot of models that I work
with that are very good friends of mine. And that it's sometimes
like a little family. Because you start to repeat and work
with the same people over again. And that's very nice. For
example, like Tyra and Rebecca Stamos. Laticia Casta.
rredheart:
How difficult is it to find a man who treats you for who you
are and isn't swayed by your incredibly beautiful looks?
Klum:
I met my husband through a friend of mine. And at the time
we met, I wasn't really yet in the public eye. So he met me
during the early stages of my career. So it was maybe easier,
less pressure.
WildFlame99:
What kind of activities do you enjoy in your spare time?
Klum:
I love painting. I love Rollerblading in the park. I love
going to movies. I love cooking. A lot. Going to the flea
markets. And really, seeing my friends.
WildFlame99:
What was it like before you became a model?
Klum:
Well, I was going to school in Germany. And in my free time
I was dancing. I danced for 15 years of my life. Which was
my love and my passion.
latika_2:
What was the best advice anyone gave you on modeling or life
in general?
Klum:
Modeling is a great job to be in. You travel the world. You
stay in one of the most fantastic places in the world. It
is not always as glamorous as it looks, it's a lot of hard
work, too, but it's a lot of fun at the same time. But all
the money in the world cannot make you happy either, so there
has to be a balance. But I think the most important thing
is to find the love of your life and have fun in love. And
enjoy and appreciate what comes to you.
directly2u:
How many days a week do you work?
Klum:
A LOT!!!! Sometimes I have to fight for my weekends.
goodboy145:
Do you get free clothes from the companies you model for?
Klum:
People always ask me that. Very rarely can you keep the clothes.
radiohead_skier:
Is it true that nobody actually knows who designs Victoria's
Secret clothing?
Klum:
Exactly - it's a secret. And it's Victoria's secret, isn't
it?
latika_2:
For your many photo shoots, is it a lot of fun to travel
to different parts of the world?
Klum:
It's a lot of fun - once you get there. Sitting in a plane
going to Australia, for example, for 20 hours, is not so much
fun. But to be able to see these places is amazing.
stoikomullet:
Where is the most exciting place that you have traveled?
Klum:
Hong Kong. The Maldives. Australia. Mexico. Brazil. Greece.
Turkey. That's enough.
WildFlame99:
Who's your current favorite musical artist? or what kinds
of music do you enjoy?
Klum:
Mixed things. Cafe Del Mar. God, I have so many CDs. Acid
jazz. Or Randy Crawford, Michael Franks, Incognito, Propellerheads.
It's a mix.
DEDQUIST:
What's the wildest thing that happened on a Victoria's
Secret shoot?
Klum:
It wasn't on a Victoria's Secret shoot, but when I was hosting
a show for E, Wild On in Belize, I swam with 20 sharks.
Player_Hot:
Why isn't the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show broadcast on
TV?
Klum:
Don't ask me. It is in Times Square. It's going to be
live in Times Square, and it's going to be live on a webcast.
And it's tomorrow, at http://www.victoriassecret.com Which
is great, so all my friends and family in Germany can watch
it too. And all of you out there too!
KurtCobain_41:
Do you have a web page (like www.Heidiklum.com)?
Klum:
There might be one in the future, but I like the Heidi
Klum Extravaganza, http://www.fifty-five.com it is the best
site in German
paco8888888822:
Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?
Klum:
Thanks for the compliment, but I actually have two horns coming
out of my head! Just joking!
bo_echo:
How many hours does it take to shoot the photos on those ads?
Klum:
We start early in the morning with hair and makeup. It
depends what time of the year it is. In the summertime we
start at 5:30 in the morning. And you're in hair and makeup
for, like, an hour and a half. Then you shoot till 11, when
it's on location. You have lunch till 2. Then you redo hair
and makeup again. And you shoot until the sun goes down. So
it's pretty much all day.
Hutchinson_98:
Who was the best model to work with and why?
Klum:
Rebecca Romain Stamos. Because she's always been very supportive
to me and a good friend from an early age.
Fjord24:
What's your favorite color?
Klum:
Green.
shytoy26:
Do you want to hire a guy to do your laundry and cook you
meals?
Klum:
NO! I love cooking, I do it myself!
hegeman:
What school did you go to for modeling??
Klum:
A school? I never went to a modeling school, and I don't suggest
to anybody that they go to a modeling school. You should go
with a good agency, and then you'll learn as time goes by.
pherngully: You seem intelligent... How far did you go in
your education?
Klum:
I went to school for 13 years in Germany. And I finished my
degree to go to study. So if I want to still study, I can.
Alcibiaedes:
What models are you friendly with?
Klum:
I work with Stephanie Seymour a lot, with Karen Mulder.
muddler88:
It was wonderful to see you as the '98 Sports Illustrated
cover girl. What were your feelings about being able to do
that?
Klum:
Well, I was already so happy being chosen to do the issue
itself, that when I got on the cover, it was even more of
a surprise and even more amazing to me. And I'm still jumping
up the walls about it. It has changed my career 100 percent.
pini0n_2:
How do you feel about the trend in "fashion" for ultrathin
models?
Klum:
I represent more the healthy, happy, curvy, strong woman.
And that sounds much healthier to me than being 80 pounds
and skinny as a bean. A woman is a woman!
Starlight_helper:
Do you think, as a model, that they put too much emphasis
on models having pretty close to perfect bodies?
Klum:
There's all different types of models, and there're also plus
models as well. But the majority is skinny. And it's controlled
by the fashion industry.
Klutch_20:
What is your next project in television or movies?
Klum:
I'm going to do more episodes for Spin City with Michael
J. Fox starting in March. Then I'm hosting the TNT special
for Sports Illustrated, which is going to be at 8 pm/ET, on
TNT on Feb. 10, which I think is going to be a lot of fun
to watch.
rredheart:
I'm in Seattle. Are you going to visit anytime soon?
Klum:
I never had a booking there! But you never know!
takeanote: So, do you get really nervous before you go out
on stage for a show??
Klum:
Yes, I do. Because I'm on the runway with some of the best
models in the industry. So to get back to being intimidated,
yes, you get intimidated when you're on the runway with Naomi
Campbell, who is the best runway model in the world. So yes,
I get intimidated. Especially at the Victoria's Secret show
when a gazillion people are watching.
HBK6694:
Ms. Klum, do you have a fan club, and if so, how do I join?
Klum:
Most of my fan mail gets sent to my agency, Elite.
ohbehave42:
Hi, Adam here... Does an "ordinary guy" actually have a shot
with a Victoria's Secret model? :)
Klum:
Absolutely. All depends on what is on the inside, and not
what they do. And not always how they look either.
huggies63:
What would be your perfect date?
Klum:
I think the person should cook himself - there's a little
bit more effort involved than just taking you out to dinner
and letting someone else do the work. And building some ambiance
with flowers and nice music. But the cooking part is definitely
nice, even if the person isn't a good cook. It's a nice effort.
jakelvis:
How much longer will you stay in modeling?
Klum:
Depends on how good the wrinkling cream is working!
durham27:
Are you a baseball fan? What are your favorite sports?
Klum:
I like basketball, and I've been to three games, which is
so much more fun than seeing it on TV, I think. The Knicks
in Madison Square Garden!
jordanmatthewsjets:
What is the most expensive outfit you have ever worn?
Klum:
I don't think it was the outfit, it was more the Harry Winston
jewelry I was wearing, for a charity. I don't remember how
much it was. I also wore a tiara from Cartier on their 150th
anniversary at the Metropolitan Museum, where I felt like
a princess. And I had a bodyguard that followed me everywhere.
Vodkaking431:
What do you think of your article in GQ?
Klum:
I thought it was written very nicely. And I loved the pictures,
which a good friend of mine shot, Robert Erdman.
TAYO777:
How much time do you typically spend traveling in a year?
Klum:
That's a hard one. I don't know. Sometimes I travel twice
a week by plane. And I've been overseas to Bali, the Maldives,
Hong Kong, Australia, which are all major long flights, all
in one year. And then I go to Europe a lot.
snowden_of_yesteryear:
Schoenen Guten Abend!! I'm an intermediate student of German.
Any important or interesting sayings I should know?
Klum:
Hallo, meine lieben freunde in Deutschland! Esgruesst euch
euere Heide. Which means, Hello, all my friends in Germany.
Best wishes, Heidi.
Shilonious:
Would you ever consider divorce in order to marry me?
Klum:
No! I'm very happy!
DraculazBlood:
What's the hardest thing about being a Victoria's Secret model?
Klum:
There's nothing really hard about it. It's a great client
of mine, and it's like a family. It's like working with your
family. They became all good friends of mine. I shoot with
them, like, one week out of every month, so you start to get
to know them very well.
ShrtythePmp:
What is the deal with the Victoria's Secret online fashion
show?
Klum:
It's the first time that people all over the world can watch
the Victoria's Secret show live. It' s like they have a ticket
to the show, basically. It starts tomorrow night, I think
at 7 pm. And it's at http://www.victoriassecret.com.
TV
Guide Online: Thanks for joining us this evening. We had
lots of fun. Good luck with your modeling career, your home
life, and your future projects.
Klum:
I had a great time chatting with all of you out there. It's
been a lot fun! And as I've been told, there have been over
9,000 questions, and I'm feeling very, very flattered. Thank
you very much! Love, Heidi.
